Joanna Puchalska is a former pupil of The State High School of Arts in Supraśl and a graduate of the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Jagiellonian University and the Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations of the same university. She defended a PhD thesis concerning the ethos of the Japanese warriors on the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw. She obtained her first experiences in teaching in Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations but is now affiliated to the Institute of the Middle and Far East of the Jagiellonian University. She is eager to enrich her scientific interests with practice of various martial arts. Scientific interests: War cultures and warriors of Asia and Europe, Militaria, Martial Arts, Second World War and the nationalistic ideologies, Japanese culture, Popular culture, Scandinavian mythology, Ancient seafaring.
